Through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, Mastercard Foundation Scholars are provided with inclusive and relevant education and support to transition smoothly into dignified and fulfilling work to lead transformative lives.

By offering a fully funded scholarship, the program has opened doors to higher learning, empowering students to pursue their academic dreams while alleviating the financial burdens on their families.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda is a 10-year partnership (2021-2031) between the University of Rwanda and the Mastercard Foundation that aims to develop the next generation of transformative leaders by enabling highly talented, service-oriented young people, primarily young Africans, to pursue higher education and cultivate their leadership potential.
According to Mastercard Foundation Scholars at the University of Rwanda, the support has provided access to education that would otherwise be difficult to achieve due to financial constraints.
Beyond financial assistance, the program offers a comprehensive support system that includes leadership development, mentorship, and internship opportunities, market labor skills, placements, career support, business competition, equipping scholars with critical skills for smooth transition into the workforce. For the scholars, this has been a life-altering experience, as they are not only gaining academic knowledge but are also being trained for leadership and entrepreneurship roles.
Parents also express immense gratitude for the support, noting that the scholarship has not only transformed their children’s lives but has also inspired hope within the entire family since they see their children’s success as a catalyst for change.
