Why the University of Rwanda.

The University of Rwanda (UR), established in 2013, is the largest public institution of higher learning in Rwanda, with over 30,000 students in the seven Colleges. The University of Rwanda offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs through its colleges namely the College of Science and Technology (CST), College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), College of Business and Economics (CBE), College of Education (CE), the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food Science (CAFF), and College of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Sciences (CVAS).
The University’s vision is to produce transformative leaders and highly enterprising graduates capable of influencing change on the African continent while fostering a more just and sustainable society locally, nationally, and globally. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda presents therefore a unique opportunity for the University of Rwanda to advance its mission and become a genuine knowledge and transition accelerator, contributing to the national innovation and development vision.
Beyond its comprehensive curriculum, the University of Rwanda offers attractive programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, addressing Rwanda and Africa’s developmental challenges. Notably, the University of Rwanda hosts four African World Bank-supported Centres of Excellence in energy, the Internet of Things, data science, teaching mathematics, and science.
The University of Rwanda initiated efforts to move education online, aiming to increase student-centered learning and expand access through distance learning. Beyond leveraging technology for direct support to scholars in education, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program will enhance the University of Rwanda’s capacity to deliver inclusive blended learning and education to the entire student community.
Additionally, the University of Rwanda houses an AfDB Center of Excellence in biomedical engineering and a GAVI and KWF-supported center in Vaccine and Health supply, alongside a UNESCO Type 2 Center of Excellence in Biodiversity conservation. Through leveraging capabilities across its colleges and various partners, the University of Rwanda has established a unique and meaningful long-term partnership with Mastercard Foundation, aiming to provide a positive experience for scholars.
